At the fertile foot of the Santa Ana volcano in El Salvador, Finca Miravalle is located at an altitude of 1700 to 1800 meters above sea level. This small farm is owned and run by Dr. Jaime Ernesto Riera Menendez, whose family has been growing coffee in El Salvador for several generations. Despite his main job as a gastroenterologist, Dr. Menendez had a great love for growing coffee that runs in his whole family's blood. As a reward for this dedication, he reaps an outstanding coffee that grows on the slopes of Miravalle. The farm's first harvest starts in mid-February and runs through March. During the harvest season, up to 35 people helpin the crops the almost 10 hectares of fertile land. The workers are paid well above average. After the careful harvest by hand, the harvested coffee fruits are transported on the same day to the neighboring cooperative in Chalchuapa to be sun-dried in a 'natural' process.
